Scenes from a Sunday in Balboa Park

This weekend was the first weekend of real sun and warmth. Summer begins here with "May grey" and "June gloom" depressing locals and disappointing visitors. Although Sunday was very warm there was a nice breeze to keep from getting too hot. The city was beautiful and my guests (43 from all over the country) seemed to appreciate the beautiful day. Most went to the zoo after the tour.

The Park is one of my absolute favorite parts of the city, and Sunday is a great day to visit. Plenty of things going on, especially in the afternoon with the concerts at the Spreckels Organ Pavilion and the Lawn Program at the International Cottages. You can spend the whole day here without spending much money.

Here are a few photos I took this past Sunday in front of the Botanical Building.

One of the most photographed scenes at the Park. The lilies in the pond were beautiful - full with lots of flowers.

I have no idea what this flower is, but it sure is unusual and beautiful. You can see it in the picture above this to get an idea of its location and size.

A nice day for a swim - the Koi are always popular with the kids.

This group was on some sort of photography tour/class. I tried to learn what I could while they were standing there.

Welcome!

Thanks for visiting. This little slice of the blogosphere is intended to share my love for travel, both of the tours I guide here in San Diego, and also my own travels to various parts of the country or world. I appreciate you taking the time to stop by.
